Dog Poop Lights Up City Park

http://www.aolnews.com/weird-news/article/street-lamp-in-cambridge-mass-dog-park-is-powered-by-methane-from-dog-poop/19643188?test=latestnews

This is such a fabulous idea!

Don't you think the residents of Kamloops would love to put their dog waste into street lamps? With the amount of waste created by Kamloops ~ 8000 dogs.... we could create some serious energy!

aaahhh! Still no truck decals....

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd post an update on my new little truck..... I still haven't been able to put any graphics on it. It's been giving me some major problems since I bought it, and it continues to threaten to break down...... In the meantime, I may have to get some magnets done. That way, no matter which vehicle I'm in, I can put on some signage.

On a separate note - I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! Fall is well on its way with all of this rain, but I'm not complaining - I'd rather be outside in the rain, then inside at my desk!

Cheers!

Pet Overpopulation

"every poop that isn't scooped increases surface and ground water bacteria levels when rain water washes fecal matter into storm drains and water tables"

Sunshine Coast

What a day yesterday! We left Kamloops by 1:00 ( tried to get out earlier but it just didn't work), and headed forVancouver - Horseshoe Bay 5:30 ferry... I should have known it would be full.... especially when we show up at the last moment on a friday evening! Oh well - we caught the next one.... It was a long day! We arrived at my mom's house in Davis Bay just before 9pm, and she had dinner waiting; an amazing sweet potato chicken stew in the crockpot! Gotta love moms!

INTERNATIONAL SCOOP THE POOP WEEK
April 1-7, 2010

It’s no joke.
April Fool’s Day kicks off International Scoop the Poop Week, a week devoted to encouraging dog owners to clean up after their pets. (www.apaws.org)

Dog waste is no laughing matter! Each year, just one dog can produce 728 piles of the nasty stuff! (www.scoopythepoo.com)

  • Dog poop is NOT good fertilizer. It's toxic to your lawn!
  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies pet waste as a dangerous pollutant in the same category as toxic chemicals and oil.
  • Unscooped poop is carried by overland water flow or is washed into storm drains, ending up in streams, rivers and ground water.
  • Pet waste can spread parasites and bacteria including roundworm, hookworm, ringworm, tapeworm, Salmonella, E. Coli, and Coliform. Parasite eggs can linger in soil for years!
  • Dog poop doesn't just "wash away" or disappear. So if you're not disposing of your dog's waste, you're putting yourself, your family, your dog and our water supply at risk. (http://dogtalk101.blogspot.com/2010/01/facts-about-dangers-of-dog-poop.html)

If you are unable to scoop the poop yourself – maybe your schedule is tight or your stomach weak, you can always hire a professional to do it for you!

K9 Poo Crew has been providing professional pet waste removal services in Kamloops, BC since December 2008. Our service is friendly and reliable and our rates affordable. Whether you need regularly scheduled scooping or just a one time clean – K9 Poo Crew is your answer!

BC SPCA: Pesticides and Pets

I receive the SPCA's newsletter, and thought this little tidbit was interesting, and wanted to share....

The BC SPCA has joined the Canadian Cancer Society in a campaign, partnered with Toxic Free Canada to promote a ban on cosmetic pesticides in British Columbia.

Wowzers! Spring has sprung!

I cannot believe this great weather! I was actually outside yesterday in a t-shirt! Grass is sprouting, people are mowing, and even I have the urge to get the garden ready!

If you're in yard mode too, and you need some help with the dog waste buildup before you can get started, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'm happy to clean it up and take it away - completing the chore that is dreaded by so many....

Cheers!

Little car....

I think it's almost time to switch up from my two door car..... Two trips to the dump in a day is not preferable, if you know what I mean!

Big red!

I'm excited to report I may finally be getting a bigger, better poop scoop! Most times, my regular sized scoop is perfect for weekly cleans.... but there are times when it just doesn't cut it! Yards with large or multiple dogs will be much quicker with this new scoop - and I will not be using as much plastic - yeah!

I've previously not been able to find a canadian supplier of big red (huge lobby dustpan)... but have recently had help from a local janitorial company. Hopefully the scoops will be arriving soon!!! I can't wait to try it out!

If you've neglected the dog piles in your yard for some time, now is a great time to scoop!!! Everything is in plain site, but not soggy.... Get it picked up before the snow comes back!
